Back in February, the 16th to be exact, SpreadLoveATL, Knitting Factory Entertainment & myself presented the #FelaATL event to promote the return of the Fela Musical to Atlanta. The event was a testament to the life, legacy politics and music of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Filled to capacity, the event hosted Atlanta DJ’s Caz (Mike Zarin & Chris Nicholson), DJ Ausar and yours truly DJ Kemit. Sauda Jackson & The Guerrilla Dance Project blessed the event with a choreographed tribute to the ‘First Black President’ Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The events host Rasa Don (Brand Ambassador for Knitting Factory) was on stage painting live throughout the night. All said, the visionary behind SpreadLove ATL (Queen Aishah) pulled together an event that the city of Atlanta & Baba Fela could be proud of.
The video below is an interview I did on the red carpet for the opening night of the Fela Musical at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. February 28th, 2013. A big thanks to TallBoy for capturing this moment.
Stay tuned for SpreadLoveATL’s 8th annual tribute to Fela Anikulapo Kuti known as ‘Felabration’ in mid October 2013.
